Meditation Retreats

The Meditation Retreat is designed to focus primarily on spiritual practice rather than on healing specific health problems. It is generally a self-directed program suitable for those who are looking for a peaceful, introspective and spiritually inspiring retreat. Zen meditation, instruction and weekly Dharma Talks are included in the daily retreat rates, and you may join our residents in their daily meditation schedule. You are also welcome to use the meditation hall for additional sitting time alone. If you wish to learn the Sun-do Taoist Breathing meditation it is available for an extra charge, which includes everything you need to continue the practice at home.

Retreat Location and Accommodations

The Sixth Patriarch Zen Center is a residential meditation center located in Hercules, California, in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Meditation Retreats are available at any time, with advance reservations. Accommodation is a single room with shared bath. Meals are taken with the zen center residents. If your health condition permits, we ask that you volunteer to help with some simple daily work tasks such as morning cleaning, meal preparation or after meal clean-up and dish washing. Our living style is based on the Korean system of living on the floor so we sleep on futons on the floor, sit on cushions on the floor to eat, etc. Chairs are available for those who need them.
